You know, I've had a few doubts about dreamhost from time to time, I know they oversell their bandwidth, but what host doesn't I guess. Still, having an ancient version of ruby with no way to change it so I can use merb, which requires at least ruby 1.8.6, kinda blew since it meant I couldn't get ircwall running on dreamhost. Well, that finally changed!

    After politely requesting ruby 1.8.6 on the dreamhost forums I was sent a reply by the dreamhost head honco of all people, impressed already I sent a support request like it asked. About a day later, here I am, with a reply from him sitting in my inbox, saying they've upgrade ruby on lepke (the server my account is hosted on) to 1.8.7, and after cleaning up the remnants of trying to get a custom ruby build working, and re-installing the merb gems ircwall sprang to life saying "Sorry about that: MySQL error".

    Quickly remembering I hadn't gotten my database schema installed yet I ran "rake db:automigrate" and poof, it works! Thank you dreamhost, you guys are just amazing, no matter how many complaints you guys have gotten and the small amounts of doubt I've had over the past few months you guys have proven you have some of the most amazing technical support I've seen, and you really care about your customers. You are definetely going to be my #1 pick when a client asks me what webhost they should use, and in fact, I have one asking me right now :)
