Wii SD Update: One Step Forward (but two steps back)

So, my long awaited Wii SD update has finally arrived, introducing a shiny new SD menu clad in contrasting black and adding support for SDHC cards up to 16GB (officially, at least). The SD menu now allows you to 'run' Wii channels (including WiiWare and Virtual Console titles) 'directly' from an SD/SDHC card. But are all of these advances enough to solve the storage pitfalls of the Wii for hardcore gamers?

Nintendo Replacing my Discs

Oh, Nintendo, your customer service amazes me again. If you'll recall my wii was scratching my games, I just got it back from NoA today, and they seem to have simply replaced the internals of the console (unsure of whether I should be happy or annoyed). So, now that I have my console back, I called them up again to see what could be done for my discs that are scratched beyond repair.

Bye Wii and DS

Despite my loving care of my consoles, both my Wii and DS must be sent into Nintendo of America for repairs. My Wii is scratching game discs and one of the gamecube memory ports is having issues, and the R button on my DS is no longer responding. Bad things seem to cluster together, as recently my iPod and N75 have been having issues as well, certainly not my lucky month.

Wii Scratching my Games, WTF?!

So, all of my wii games have these lovely circular scratches around the edges. These are perfectly circular, and they go right along with the data track on the disc, so they are obviously being made by the console. My Metroid Prime 3 disc would no longer read, and having beat I decided "ah, the hell, I'll just sell it". Well, getting only $12 at gamestop for it was bad enough, but realizing that my Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess is also not reading properly made me even more suspicious.
